How long does it take to receive an admission decision?

Prospective students typically receive a decision within one week of submitting all the required application materials. Visit the admission requirements page for more information.

Is the GMAT or GRE required?

GMAT or GRE scores are not required to apply. You can view a complete list of requirements on our admission requirements page.

Do I need an accounting background to apply?

No, the online MSA is designed for those without a prior accounting degree or who may need an updated curriculum to prepare for the CPA exam. The program is comprehensive, meaning it covers both the core knowledge that those unfamiliar with accounting will need as well as more advanced topics that will help all graduates, regardless of prior accounting experience, pursue senior-level roles.


Is the online curriculum the same as the on-campus program?

The classes and requirements for both the on-campus and online MSA are the same. Additionally, all faculty for the online MSA teach on-campus at DePaul University.

How long does it take to complete the program?

The program is designed to be completed in two years, taking two courses at a time. Additionally, you can accelerate completion by taking more than two courses at a time if you choose.

What is the difference between a Master of Accounting (MAcc) and a Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA)?

Although they are often used interchangeably, many master’s in accounting programs are focused primarily on foundational knowledge and basic accounting principles. This makes MAcc degree programs a good fit for individuals who are in careers where accounting is a supplemental skill. Master of Science in Accounting programs cover a comprehensive range of topics and procedures, enabling students to gain expertise in the foundational principles and practices of accounting as well as sophisticated accounting procedures and how to apply these practices to business decision making.
