DePaul University designed the online MSA specifically for the virtual learning environment with input from the leaders in the profession. The program expands DePaul’s eight-year history of offering high-quality online accounting education while maintaining our focus on helping graduates become career-ready from day one.
The program attracts individuals from a broad range of professional backgrounds—from experienced accounting professionals to those who want to enter the field. Online MSA students develop the comprehensive knowledge they need to advance in their careers and prepare for the CPA exam.
“All professional accountants will be expected to look beyond the numbers. They will need to collaborate and partner with people in other parts of the business and outside the business; interpret and explain the numbers; provide insight and information; help organizations to achieve short-term goals and longer-term objectives; think and behave more strategically and become more involved in decision making than before.” -Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, “Professional Accountants – The Future”
The program includes 12 courses in accountancy. Like a Master of Accounting (MAcc) program, the MSA covers foundational principles and accounting theory. However, the MSA also explores advanced accounting theory and methods that will enable both experienced and new accounting professionals to elevate their careers.
The classes are taught by award-winning accounting practitioners who have been recognized by industry leaders including the big four firms and more, including Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG, RSM and others. In addition to exploring the principles, costs, and ethics of accounting, DePaul’s MSA program provides hands-on experience with a full breadth of auditing, reporting and other accountancy procedures.
The accounting theory and principles courses provide students with the knowledge to identify when and why specific accounting practices apply to business scenarios. The practical coursework teaches students how to apply these practices.
Equipped with both practice and theory, DePaul MSA graduates will leave the program prepared to handle the full range of accountancy challenges and issues that their employers or clients face, both today and in the future.
